Veterinary Acupuncture

How Can Acupuncture Help My Pet?
Acupuncture stimulates certain points on the body to produce desired effects.  It can be used to complement traditional therapies or in cases where conventional medicine has failed to produce acceptable results.

Some examples of conditions treated include: arthritis, post-operative pain, seizures, vestibular disease (head tilt), disc disease, constipation, incontinence, cancer patients, skin disorders,immune disorders, behavior problems, feather-plucking, bumble foot, and much more.

Dry Needle Acupuncture

This is the most common and well known method of acupuncture.  Dry needle acupuncture is also chosen first in most cases.  The picture shows an example of a dog getting dry needle acupuncture.  In this method of acupuncture needles are left in usually for 5 - 15 minutes.

Aquapuncture

• Aquapuncture is the injection of liquid solutions into acupuncture points to receive a desired effect.  The most common solutions used include Vitamin B12, saline, or adequan.
  
• In most cases, B12 is used because of its energy enhancing, and appetite stimulating effects.  Many of our older pets benefit very much from this form of Acupuncture.
• Saline is sometimes used because of its benign nature - meaning not adverse effects.  This is especially helpful in particularly sensitive pets, or even allergic pets.
• Adequan may be used in pets with painful joints, like arthritis, degenarative joint disease, hip dysplasia, and other painful musculoskeletal conditions.

Aquapuncture is a fairly quick form of acupuncture usually taking no more than 5 - 10 minutes.  This is quite helpful to those pets who have a hard time standing still!

Electroacupuncture

Electroacupuncture is a special form of dry needle acupuncture where a special e-stim (electrostimulating) machine is attached to needles to send a small electical impulse from one acupuncture point to another.  This may sound at little scary at first but is very relaxing.  Electroacupuncture is used frequently in musculoskeletal conditions to help relax the muscles and nerves, and rebalance the body's energy and life force - called Qi in Chinese Medicine.
